First HBS Meeting Minutes

Thank you to everyone who attended our first HBS meeting last Wednesday, we had such a great turn out! Yay HBS!

Its a great way to get to know your fellow HBS members as well as some professors!

-Mentorship Program
HBS will host its annual mentorship program again. This is the program where a freshman or sophomore will be paired up with a junior/senior as their mentor. The upperclassmen is there to give professional and career advice to his/her mentee as well as to build a relationship. It is a great program. If you did not sign up at the meeting, please email us with your name, year, areas of interest within the industry and we will pair you with a mentor! And/or, if you are interested in being a mentor, please email us with your area of concentration, name, and year. If you had a mentor who graduated, please indicate who your previous mentor was! And if you had mentees you would like to keep, please email us as well.

-Internship & Career Fair
Monday, November 2, 2009, 10-2pm, Rosenthal Pavilion
We are having a joint fair with the Sports Business Society as well as Graduate HBS. Professional attire (suit) is required. At our October HBS meeting, we will go over all the do's and don'ts of the internship fair so make sure to be there!!!!

Starting this year, we will be giving HSMAI updates at all of the HBS meetings. We hope many of you will get involved with HSMAI and will attend their meetings and events as well. To join:

Bloomingdale’s, the nation’s only full-line, upscale department store, offers exclusive Tourism Programs for international and domestic visitors in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Miami. Internship opportunities are currently available in our International Marketing Department in New York and in our Visitors Centers in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Miami. These positions are designed for college students interested in the tourism and hospitality industry and provide a strong focus on customer service and special event planning.


Job Description
*Work closely with the local Tourism Manager on special in-store events and fashion shows for groups and conventions.
*Conduct regular outreach to hotel concierge via telephone and personal visits to keep Bloomingdale’s top-of-mind for recommendation to their guests.
*Identify and analyze the competition through secret shopping and hotel concierge desk inquiries.
*Update and maintain Convention Calendar.
*Contact hotels to coordinate collateral shipments and deliveries.
*Complete monthly gift & referral card inventory.
*Greet and register Visitors Center guests, providing foreign language assistance as required.
*Assist all departments with special needs of international and out of area customers.
*Assemble sales kits to be distributed at trade shows.
*Update and maintain hotel concierge mailing lists.
*Other administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements:
*Current undergraduate student majoring in Marketing, Communications, Travel & Tourism or related field
*Good academic standing
*High-energy individual with excellent communication skills
*PC literate with experience in Word, Power Point and Excel
*Excellent customer service skills
*Foreign language skills strongly preferred, but not required
*Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings
